Press Release: Alea and Athonet showcase Advancements in Future Railway Mobile Communication System at the ETSI FRMCS Plugtests Event
Pordenone, Italy – June 22, 2021 – Alea today announced a successful joint demo at the ETSI FRMCS Plugtests 2021 with Athonet to demonstrate the features and capabilities of MCXPTT for the use of Mission Critical Push-To-Talk solutions for railway telecommunication services. The focus was on Functional Aliases and emergency call management services. The demo also demonstrated how Athonet’s core network manages QCI values meeting 3GPP requirements in terms of priority, packet delay, and packet-error-loss-rate. The results of the demo reflect the commitment of the two companies to the implementation and development of the FRMCS standard, and represent an important step toward a digital rail future. .
The FRMCS Plugtests event, held remotely from June 14-18, was organized by ETSI with the support of the European Commission (EC), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the Critical Communications Association (TCCA) and the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC). The event aimed to validate equipment interoperability of a variety of implementations using test scenarios based on the 3GPP Mission Critical work with a focus on railways-oriented capabilities. FRMCS technology will replace the GSM-R standard and revolutionize railway communications in the next few years, providing enormous benefits to rail operators and passengers.
